Sonia Sellar
Registered Psychologist
Director
BSSc,GDPsych, MPsych (Counselling Psychology), MAPS
I have Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and hold a professional membership with the Australian Psychology Society. I'm also registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

I have experience in private practice, university settings, employee assistance programs and youth organisations. I use a range of evidenced-based interventions to assess, diagnose and treat various psychological disorders. I also work with individuals and couples who are struggling to enjoy their day-to-day lives.
I have a collaborative and empathetic approach to therapy, understanding how important it is to feel safe and comfortable when talking about difficult life problems. I'm particularly passionate about helping my clients better understand how their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, physical responses and relationship patterns influence their current way of living. My central philosophy is that in order to make positive changes, we first need to understand how we learned to have a particular problem. We all have within us, the resources to improve our quality of life.
I am accredited in ADVANCED EMDR therapy and am concurrently pursuing my accreditation in Schema Therapy which forms the basis of most of my clinical work. I am also certified to deliver eTherapy/telehealth and am skilled in other therapeutic approaches such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing, and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy.

I strive to hold a safe, warm, and all-inclusive space for clients. I am passionate about empowering clients to learn more about themselves and to transmute challenges in a way that is inspired and even joyful. I encourage my clients to achieve gentle and sustainable shifts in both their well-being and their relationships.
My professional experience includes supporting adults and adolescents with a range of psychological issues, in the community, including in both private practice and public settings.

I approach therapy from a holistic framework in which physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing are all considered as appropriate. Within this base, I incorporate elements from a range of evidence-based therapies to assist clients; such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Self Compoassion Therapy (MBSC), Motivational Interviewing and Psychoeducation.
